New Year's Revelers Urged to Bundle Up with Snowfall Expected Across the UK
Weather experts are saying a frosty commencement to the new year, with snowfall likely across much of the UK. Those celebrating are advised to dress warmly as sub-zero temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.
Festive Plans Go Ahead In Spite of Alerts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay events are expected to go ahead, a contrast to last year's calling-off. This comes despite yellow warnings for snow across northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so extra layers will be essential," stated the national forecaster.
Displays Under Clear but Chilly Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is set to be perfect for fireworks displays, with no rain and clear skies. Temperatures are forecast to be low, so warm wraps vital, according to forecasters.
In more northern areas, conditions will be more overcast, but this is not expected to hamper visibility for watching fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you will likely be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Broad Snow Warnings for Friday
As we enter Friday, weather warnings are in place for Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

- Hold-ups and call-offs are anticipated on public transport.
Readings Expected to Plummet Further
Going into the new year, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are forecast to fall even more as snow and gale-force winds are predicted to hit the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow is expected to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Public Health Warnings Activated
Meanwhile, amber cold health alerts have been activated for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with readings forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency explained this meant the weather was expected to trigger significant impacts across health and social care services. This encompasses a expected uptick in the fatality numbers among vulnerable individuals or those in the older age groups.
