Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden Fall Classic after 1993 by beating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, our city, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."
George Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third all-time behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another player anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment besides him with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
The Blue Jays won the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
